Nifty slips below 10,200 mark; Sensex falls 200 points

Benchmark indices extended losses for the sixth straight session on Wednesday with the Nifty50 slipping below its crucial 10,200 mark following the resignation of White House economic adviser Gary Cohn and weak Asian cues. Losses were led by ICICI Bank, RIL, SBI, HDFC Bank, M&M, ONGC and Axis Bank.

At 11:39 AM, the BSE Sensex was trading at 33,120, down 197 points, while the Nifty50 index was trading at 10,192, down 63 points.

The BSE Midcap Index slipped 1.14% and the BSE Smallcap Index was down 1.62%.

Volatility index India VIX down 0.52% to 16.1600.

Shares of Sharon Bio-Medicine fell 3% after the company temporarily suspended operations at a plant in Taloja district of Maharshtra following directions of the Central Pollution Control Board

Shares of ICICI Bank slumped over 2.5% as the bank's senior officials were summoned by the Serious Fraud Investigation Office (SFIO) with regard to the PNB scam.

NSE Nifty Metal Index fell for the sixth straight session today, down as much as 1.3% hitting its lowest in a month.

Tata Motors (+1.5%), HCL Tech (+1.3%), ITC (+1.13%), Wipro (+0.87%) and NTPC (+0.77%) were the top gainers on Nifty50.

Indiabulls HF (-3%), ONGC (-2.9%), SBI (-2.8%), ICICI Bank (-2.5%) and HPCL (-2.2%) were the top losers in today’s trade.

Out of 2,013 stocks traded on the NSE, 305 advanced, 1,388 declined and 320 remained unchanged today.

A total of nine stocks registered a fresh 52-week high in trade today, while 151 stocks touched a new 52-week low.
