Nifty holds 10,100 mark as IT cos gain; Cipla recovers
Benchmark domestic indices rose, on the back of gains in the shares of information technology companies, public sector banks, and infrastructure companies.
At 2:03 PM, the BSE Sensex was trading at 32,989, up 65 points, while the Nifty50 index was trading at 10,123, up 28 points.
The BSE Midcap and the BSE Smallcap indices were up 0.29% and 0.02%, respectively.
On BSE Sensex, NTPC and Hindalco are trading at massive volumes of 2 million and 1.6 million respectively. In terms of number of trades, Tata Steel tops the list with 9,665 trades followed by Cipla with 7,852 trades.
Infosys and Larsen and Toubro contributed the most to the gain in BSE Sensex with 24 points and 22 points respectively. HDFC and Tata Steel were responsible for gains in equity benchmark index to the extent of 21 and 14 points respectively out of the total gain of 87 points.
The Nifty IT index was the top gainer among all sectoral indices on the NSE, up 1.4%, led by gains in the shares of HCL Technologies, Wipro and Tech Mahindra.
Shares of Bharti Infratel were up 4.7%, while those of Vedanta were down 5.5%, making it the top loser.
All sectoral indices on NSE gained, except Nifty Realty index, which was down 0.5%.
Shares of Larsen & Toubro Infotech were up 2.7% after the company said it would provide information and technology infrastructure, and security management services to Accudyne Industries LLC.
Volatility index India VIX slipped 0.94% and is at 15.8200.
Bharti Infratel (4.4%), Tata Steel (3.6%), Eicher Motors (3%), Tech Mahindra (2.8%) and Wipro (2%) were top gainers on Nifty50.
IOC (-1.3%), NTPC (-1.2%), M&M (-1.1%), Bharti Airtel (-0.7%) and Cipla (-0.7%) were the top losers in today’s trade.
Out of 2,022 stocks traded on Nifty, 760 advanced, 904 declined and 358 remained unchanged.
A total of 5 stocks registered a fresh 52-week high in trade today, while 113 stocks touched a new 52-week low on the NSE.
