Nifty above 10,400 mark; TCS stock dips

Equity benchmark indices turned choppy in early trades as it failed to carry forward previous day's momentum.

Today’s gains were led by ICICI Bank, SBI, HDFC twins and Axis Bank.

At 9:58 AM, the BSE Sensex was trading at 33,967, up 55 points, while the Nifty50 index was trading at 10,433, up 16 points.

The BSE Midcap and the BSE Smallcap indices rose 0.80% and 0.77%, respectively.

TCS slipped 5% on the NSE after the promoter Tata Sons sold around 1.5% stake in information technology (IT) major through block deals.

Bank of India stock zoomed 8% on the back of recovery of Rs7,000cr from other banks.

On the economy front, CPI or retail inflation eased to 4.44% in the month of February 2018, from 5.05% in January 2018. Industrial output, meanwhile, expanded 7.5% in January, up from 7.1% in December.

Volatility index India VIX slipped 1.34% to 14.2975.

HPCL (+3%), Wipro (+2%), BPCL (+2%), Infratel (+1.7%) and IOC (+1.5%) were the top gainers on Nifty50.

TCS (-5.1%), NTPC (-1.9%), Hindalco (-1.6%), Coal India (-1.5%) and Vedanta (-1.2%) were the top losers in today’s trade.

Out of 2,009 stocks traded on the NSE, 1,209 advanced, 556 declined and 424 remained unchanged today.

A total of eight stocks registered a fresh 52-week high in trade today, while 50 stocks touched a new 52-week low on the NSE.

F&O: Put writing at all immediate strikes shows Nifty may hold up  The Nifty50 index opened in the negative but managed to recover sharply from lower levels and headed towards the 10,750 level on Wednesday. It formed a Piercing Line pattern on the daily scale, as it recovered its losses of the last session by more than a half. It has been making lower lows from last four sessions and holds above the 10,750-10,777 zone can negate the same to extend its recent bounce towards 10,850 and then 10,929 levels.  Nifty has reclaimed its 50-day EMA while on the downside it has support at 10,650 and then 10,600 levels.  On the options front, maximum Put OI was at 10,000 followed by 10,500 and 10,700 levels, while maximum Call OI was at 11,000 followed by 10,900 level.
