Indices extend gains as Jaitley upbeat on economy growth

FM Jaitley at the start of his speech emphasised on this year's budget being rural centric. The government committed to welfare of farmers and also government will focus on farm and non-form employment generation, Jaitley added.

At 11:28 AM, the BSE Sensex was trading at 36,200, up 235 points, while the Nifty50 index was trading at 11,097, up 70 points.

Maruti Suzuki India has posted a 4.8% growth year-on-year in January sales, driven by compact cars and utility vehicles.

Shares of Fortis Healthcare fell around 10% after the Delhi HC verdict on Wednesday.

The broader markets were trading higher as the BSE MidCap Index up 0.10%, while the BSE SmallCap Index gained 0.87%.

Volatility index India VIX slipped 1.06% at 15.7600.

L&T (+3.3%), M&M (+2.3%), Indiabulls HF (+1.4%), TCS (+1.4%) and HCL Tech (+1.3%) and were the top gainers on Nifty50.

Vedanta (-1.7%), Infratel (-1.4%), Tata Steel (-1.1%), Lupin (-0.93%) and NTPC (-0.91%) were the top losers in today’s trade.

Out of 2,010 stocks traded on the NSE, 1,066 advanced, 522 declined and 422 remained unchanged today.

A total of 13 stocks registered a fresh 52-week high in trade today, while 12 stocks touched a new 52-week low on the NSE.
