Sensex, Nifty volatile; Coal India, Jet Airways gain
Equity benchmark indices remained volatile in morning session, after hitting a record high.
At 11:02 AM, the BSE Sensex was trading at 34,420, down 24 points, while the broader Nifty50 was ruling at 10,624, down 12 points.
Shares of Tata Motors parred early losses and rose as 0.27% after its global wholesale, including Jaguar Land Rover, rose 23% last month on a yearly basis.
Shares of Welspun India hit an over three-month high, following several large deals. Around 45 mn shares are reported to have been traded at Rs72.65 apiece on the NSE.
Shares of telecom companies gained today after Telecom Commission on Tuesday agreed with Telecom Regulatory Authority of India's recommendation to raise spectrum holding limit for mobile operators.
Shares of Coffee Day Enterprises rallied 10% due to expectations of Cabinet approval for 100% foreign direct investment in single-brand retail through the automatic route later today.
The BSE Mid-cap and BSE Small-cap indices were up 0.04% and 0.18%, respectively.
Volatility index India VIX gained 2.34%.
Tech Mahindra (+1.7%), Coal India (+1.4%), Adani Ports (+0.97%), HPCL (+0.81%) and ONGC (+0.71%) were the top gainers on Nifty50.
Eicher (-1.3%), Asian Paints (-1.2%), Indiabulls HF (-1.1%), Bajaj Finance (-1.1%) and Tata Steel (-0.91%) were the top losers in today’s trade.
Out of 2,005 stocks traded on the NSE, 860 advanced, 802 declined and 343 remained unchanged today.
A total of 106 stocks registered a fresh 52-week high in trade today, while five stocks touched a new 52-week low on the NSE.
