Nifty ends at 3-week closing low, IOC top Nifty loser
NSE Nifty closed at 9578 down by 40 points, whereas BSE Sensex closed lower by 80 points at 31075.
BSE Mid-cap index closed lower by 0.12% at 14781. BSE Small-cap index closed higher by 0.37% at 15645. India VIX closed higher by 1.2% at 11.3 level.
Aurobindo Pharma, Wipro, Cipla, Dr. Reddy’s Laboratories and Reliance Industries are the top Nifty gainers, whereas IOC, BPCL, TCS, Bank of Baroda, Hindalco, Bharti Infratel, L&T and ONGC are the top Nifty losers.
The aviation stocks surged during Thursday’s morning session and traded in green throughout the day as crude oil prices fell to a 7-month low on Wednesday. Global Vectra Helicorp Limited was the top gainer among the aviation stocks. It closed at Rs 168.80 per share, up by 12.5%. SpiceJet closed up by 1% at Rs 122.80 per share, IndiGo closed up by 2.2% at Rs 1181.25 per share and Jet Airways closed higher by 0.3% at Rs 534.80 per share.
Oil marketing companies took a hit and traded in the red zone on Thursday. Indian Oil Corporation was the top Nifty loser. It closed down by 3% at Rs 407.50 per share, Hindustan Petroleum Corporation closed at Rs 515.80 per share, down by 5.5% and Bharat Petroleum Corporation closed down by 2.8% at Rs 672 per share.
Shipping stocks also gained in the morning session and continued to trade in green throughout the day. Dredging Corporation closed at Rs 682.10 per share, up by 12.5%, Shipping Corporation also closed up by 7.8% at Rs 85.60 per share, Shreyas Shipping closed at Rs 322.35 per share, up by 1.5% and Great Eastern Shipping also closed higher by 1.9% at Rs 406.80 per share.
At the closing hour, Datamatics Global Services and Brigade Enterprises were buzzing on the bourses. Datamatics closed at Rs 110.10 per share, up by 9.2%, whereas Brigade Enterprises closed higher by 9% at Rs 288 per share.
The BSE Realty index was the top gaining index at the closing session. Indiabulls Real Estate contributed heavily to the index gains. It closed at Rs 197.65 per share, up by 6.4%. HDIL closed at Rs 91.95 per share, up by 2.8%, DLF closed higher by 2.4% at Rs 192.10 per share and Prestige Estates closed up by 1% at Rs 267.95 per share.

Dredging Corporation of India closed higher by 12.5% at Rs 682.10 per share.
