Live Stock Market Updates: Markets off opening high; Metal stocks shine

Nifty Metal index is trading higher by 1.42% at 2966 level. Metal stocks have been gaining grounds in the morning hours on Thursday. Jindal Steel is the top gainer in the index trading higher by around 4.11% at Rs 124 per share.

Tata Steel is also eye-catcher in the index trading higher by close to 4% at Rs 508.35 per share. Other metal stocks like JSW Steel, APL Apollo Tubes Limited, SAIL were trading in green zone.

There are 828 advances, 717 declines and 404 unchanged stocks on NSE reflecting fairly positive bias in the market.

At 11 AM, the S&P BSE Sensex is trading at 31226 down 44 points, while NSE Nifty is trading at 9653 down 10 points. A total of 59 stocks registered a fresh 52-week high in trade today, while 23 stocks touched a new 52-week low on the NSE.

The BSE Mid-cap Index is trading up 0.31% at 14846, while BSE Small-cap Index is trading marginally up 0.13% at 15446.

Some buying activity is seen in Capital Goods, Finance, Metal, Auto, while FMCG, IT, PSU Banks and Realty are showing weakness on NSE.

Tata Steel, Dr Reddy’s, HDFC, Hindalco and Tata Motors are among the gainers, whereas TCS, Bharti Infratel, Tata Power, Adani Ports and GAIL are losing sheen on NSE in the first trading hour.

F&O: Put writing at all immediate strikes shows Nifty may hold up  The Nifty50 index opened in the negative but managed to recover sharply from lower levels and headed towards the 10,750 level on Wednesday. It formed a Piercing Line pattern on the daily scale, as it recovered its losses of the last session by more than a half. It has been making lower lows from last four sessions and holds above the 10,750-10,777 zone can negate the same to extend its recent bounce towards 10,850 and then 10,929 levels.  Nifty has reclaimed its 50-day EMA while on the downside it has support at 10,650 and then 10,600 levels.  On the options front, maximum Put OI was at 10,000 followed by 10,500 and 10,700 levels, while maximum Call OI was at 11,000 followed by 10,900 level.
